Hacking

In pairs, explore the following. You don't need to write anything down, but be prepared to discuss it as a group.

1. How do these three places use the term hack? Compare their understanding of the term with your preconceived notions.

   • MIT Hacks
   • Google: "Hacks of Random Kindness" and look at a couple versions of this idea
   • Hack a Day

2. Who is George Hotz? What is his relationship with the iPhone & With Sony's Playstation? Who has he worked for? What is he doing now?

3. What's a blue box and what does it have to do with Steve Jobs?

4. Take a look at the chart found here: The Two Faces of Hacking

   Play around with the check boxes, take a look at three or so hacks that seem interesting to you. Do you think that their categorizations are appropriate?

5. Read the following two articles (all of the first one, and at least the 'What Is a Hacker?' & 'The Hacker Attitude' section of the second) -- be prepared to discuss the similarities and differences between the visions
